3 years after posting this post, I have another niece which is happened to be about 16 months for now.
Left : Toong @ 14 months old
Right : Qing @ 16 months old
Reading back from the previous post, let’s compare what they speaks at around 14 ~ 16 months.
1.Toong: “Seik” – As in eat in cantonese, this is her first learned word. Whenever she sees food and she wants to eat she said this. Recently she has been using it interchanging with “Mumm Mumm“.
Qing: “Yao(要)” most of the time, she will point her little finger to the food and say this. Similar to her sister, she use “Mumm Mumm” only occasionally.
2. Toong: “Pa pa” – A term that she used to call her dad and also her mum. Apparently she still can’t quite distinguish between Pa Pa and Ma Ma.
Qing: Hardly heard she speaks this word now, but she does know that this term is referring to her dad.
3. Toong: “Ma Ma” – Only used to refer to her mum when we corrected her after referring her Ma Ma as Pa Pa.
Qing: “Mummy”, and she says it in a real slow motion way. Most of the time she use it to refer to her mum, but if she wants something and she get impatient, she will shout “mummy” as well.
4. Toong: “Gai Gai” Ah – Her usual accent when she wants to go for a walk, ended up with a high pitch in the Ah.
Qing: “Zou(走)” – means let’s go, or walk around. She learn to say this word before learning to walk on her own.
5. Toong: “bao bei” ya – Her little blue blanket that she must hug when she sleeps. So she will walk and wonder in the house and keep on saying “bao bei ya” until she finds it and satisfiedly holding it.
Qing: “Bao Bei” – refers to her sister bao bei.
5. Toong: “Byie” ya – Her own way of saying good bye if she is in a good mood.
Qing: “…” – She just know the hand waving gesture, don’t say the word yet.
6. Toong: “non more” – Supposingly is “No More”. A term that I taught her when I finish bathing her, so that she knows there is no more water to play with. However, today she used it confusingly as “no” when she indicates she does not want to finish the milk.
Qing: “Mei You(没有) – Refers to no more, more specifically used when her food is finished.
7. Toong: “bish” – A term that she just learned yesterday. She is refered to fish actually but didn’t pronounce it the way it should be.
Qing: “bish”, finally one similar word they both said. Probably young baby has problem pronouncing it.
8. Toong: “xie xie” – Shoe in mandarin, referring to her shoes when she wants to go out for a walk.
Qing: “Xie”, she likes to walk with her shoe put on.
9. Toong: “goot goot” – Baby term of plain water. She used it when she wants to drink water.
Qing: Not saying this word yet
10. Toong: “nien nien” – Milk in baby term.
Qing: Not saying this word yet
11. Toong: “yao yao yao” – Refering her sleeping net, I used that as her swing as well thus the term.
Qing: Refers to the swing outside of our house in the garden.
12. Toong: “wou wou wou” – A dog.
Qing: “Gou(狗)”
13. Toong: “da” – Hitting in mandarin. She says this when she sees the big bad wolf in her litter red riding hood story book.
Qing: “da(打)” - She mimics me when I scold her for being naughty.
In fact Qing knows more word that her sister now, of course she is 16 months now compare to the post I wrote when her sister was 14 months, thus the 2 months difference could be the reason.
Other words Qing knows now:
1. Mao 猫- Cat
2. Gong Gong 公公 – refer to my dad
3. Po po 婆婆 – refer to my mum
4. Ah Yi 阿姨 – refer to me and her others ah yi
5. ABC – the letter ABC, but she pronounces it as “Aaa Bei See”
6. Soh See 锁匙 – keys
7. Dei Dao 跌倒 – falling down
8. Bi Bo Bi B0 – referring to the fire cracker
Well, well, is all fun to see her learning a new word everyday. The elder niece is 4.5 years old now, and can speak fluently with us. Is going to be fun when the second niece can converse more and it definitely will be interesting to see two of them interacting.
